| Bio: | I'm a writer, translator and mom living in Chicago. I have one child, a preschool-aged girl with a moderate-to-severe hearing loss in both ears. We use voice and pidgin signed English to communicate with her. I'm a Baha'i who does not get to a lot of community activities because they tend to take place in the evening when I'm home putting my daughter to bed. Still, it's very important to me and I take Paula to children's classes and we pray together as a family before she goes to bed. My hubby is a gigging musician and middle-school music teacher. The fact that he still wants to go on tour someday is a big reason I don't want to have more kids. I do yoga when I can get some time alone to do so - I love it but definitely fit into the beginner category and have been there for many years. I was big into attachment parenting with my daughter, and still think it's a good way to go for some families. There's no one size fits all, though. I suffer from depression and anxiety that arose while parenting my high-need child and dealing with her diagnosis. I take meds, I am so grateful they exist, and I really need to be in therapy and try to heal from what parenting was like before I got those meds. My translation work revolves around the Early Intervention system. I do mainly English to Spanish of the reports and documents for kids who have some developmental problems. Paula came out of this system, and honestly I believe that Early Intervention saved our family. I enjoy my work and like giving back. | ||||
